Food Provision and Farming

Promote sustainable and climate smart farming activities for improved food productivity,   education for the importance  environmental conservation, the value of  good healthy diets and the impact of healthy meals to our bodies to wain of starvation and hunger. Equip the community with knowledge and different skills on food production, harvesting, post harvesting and preparation

 

Climate Smart Agriculture.

The program has been able to adapt to the community climate-smart practices in agriculture as one way of promoting food security and increasing productivity.

Planting Materials.

The program has been able to introduce the community to a variety of crops and provided them with basic planting materials as an approach towards food security. The newest crop to Breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis) is an attractive long-lived tropical tree that yields an abundance ofa nutritious, starchy fruit for decades (National Tropical Botanical Gardens). Jomo Kenyatta
University of Technology describes it as “a staple crop grown the Pacific Islands that has a
permanent potential of being a solution hunger in tropical regions”. Breadfruit is a versatile fruit that can be consumed in many different forms.

Promoting Nutrition.

With the approach to having a healthy community, the program has demonstration sites for trainings and to enrich the community with nutritional value foods for healthy living .

Practical Training.

Training on the establishment of kitchen gardens, multi-story, vertical gardens, composting, and moist bed technologies as part of promoting food and nutrition security to improve livelihoods at all levels. Establishment of demonstration sites for training learners as part of the curriculum and the community at large with the aim of promoting community knowledge on Food Security and Nutrition for a healthy and sustainable community. With the Ministry of Agriculture working towards the re-introduction of the 4K clubs in schools we are in the process of establishing the 4K clubs’ program which is aimed at promoting interest in agriculture and agribusiness by young people.

Environment Conservation.

We have managed to plant over 30 different indigenous tree species in a bid to teach learners and create awareness to the community regarding environmental conservation practices.
